So I had recorded 'The Killers' off of TCM and had a chance to watch it the other day. Not only was it a really great film, but it had some surprisingly interesting fashion moments.
'The Killers' is a 1946 film noir starring Ava Gardner and Burt Lancaster. It was directed by Robert Siodmak and was Burt Lancaster's screen debut. It is partly based on a short story written by Ernest Hemingway. It was nominated in 1947 for 4 awards, for best director, best film editing, best music, scoring of a dramatic picture, and best adapted screenplay. It is untraditional in it's structure as it uses the effect of flashbacks.
The plot involves the life insurance investigation of a man who was murdered by two hit men.
Adaptions of the movie have included a 1949 radio play featuring Burt Lancaster and Shelly Winters, a 1958 student film adaption which is on the Criterion Collection DVD, and a 1964 film adaption which was Ronald Reagan's last film.
In 2008 'The Killers' was chosen for preservation by the United States National Film Registry by the library of congress for being, "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".
