Jayne Mansfield and her home are big sources of inspiration for me. Although I think our similarities involve more than just our decorating sense, her home is just amazing and if you haven't seen it before, I wanted to share some photos I have acquired of it.
The "Pink Palace", a spanish/south mediterranean style home was built in 1929 and designed
by architect GC McAllister. It was located at 10010 Sunset Blvd in Beverly Hills, California.
Its previous owner was Rudy Vallee who purchased it in 1932 for 125,000 dollars. Jayne Mansfield
and Mickey Hargitay purchased the home in 1958 for 76,00o dollars.
The Pink Palace had 7 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms, dining room, bar, and wine cellar. The estate also had
a 3 bedroom staff suite and separate guest house. It had 40 rooms total at 10,000 square feet.
The Pink Palace took its name from Jayne's favorite color, when she moved in she completely covered it in pink paint
sprinkled with the powder of crushed sandstone. She decorated by writing to 1,500 furniture/building suppliers asking for free samples.
She told them they could in exchange brag that their things were in her home. She received over 150,000 of free merchandise.
Some unique features of the home were an iron door, a crystal chandelier that hung from a wooden beam ceiling,
a heart-shaped fireplace, heart-shaped swimming pool with matching heart-shaped jacuzzi. The bottom of the
swimming pool said 'I love you Jaynie'.
After 1967 other people who owned the home were Rita Greenland, Ringo Starr, Mama Cass Elliot, and
Engelbert Humperdink. Sadly, the home was demolished on November 9th 2002.
